Pietro Scalvini
He studied viola at the “G.Nicolini” Conservatory of Music in Piacenza, where he graduated with honors under the guidance of Wim Janssen, simultaneously specializing under Piero Farulli at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
He has performed, and continues to perform, as first viola with the orchestras of the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, ORT of Florence, Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Parma, the Virtuosi Italiani, Orchestra Internationale d’Italia, Euroensamble, among others.
He has played and regularly plays alongside such prestigious musicians as Maria Tipo, Piero Farulli, Andrea Nannoni, Kostantin Bogino, Pavel Vernikov, Salvatore Accardo, Rocco Filippini, Mario Brunello, Patrik Gallois, Alain Meunier, Andrea Lucchesini, Pietro De Maria, Fabio Bidini, Enrico Dindo, Francesco Manara, Nelson Goerner and many others.
He was a violist with the “Quartetto di Fiesole” from its foundation in 1988 until 2007.
With this quartet, he won 1st Prize at the “International Competition for String Quartets” in Cremona in 1990, 1st Prize at the “Vittorio Gui” Competition in Florence in 1996, the Diploma of Honor at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena in 1992, the “Ottorino Respighi” scholarships in 1991, “Giorgio Camici” in 1992 and 1993, the ARAM Prize in 1992, the Special Mention of the two Juries at the Evian Competition in 1993 and was among the Graduates of the D.Shostakovic Competition in Moscow in 1999. Still with the “Quartetto di Fiesole” he has been invited by world-renowned concert societies.
Pietro Scalvini combines a concert career and teaching commitment by holding courses and masterclasses at various institutions. He holds a professorship of ensemble music for string and viola instruments at Modena’s Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “Vecchi-Tonelli”. He plays on a 1962 Marino Capicchioni viola.
